Description: No woodland garden is complete without Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum). A best-seller of the woodland, the pulpit-like flower yields bright red berries in late summer when most other woodland plants have already gone by. Highly adaptable, Jack in the Pulpit grows in almost any rich woodland soil, even in wet, swampy areas.
Leaves: One to two large, glossy leaves, divided into three leaflets, rise on their own stems 1-3 ft.
Flowers: The intriguing blossom of this woodland perennial occurs on a separate stalk at the same height as the leaves. It is a large, cylindrical, hooded flower, green in color with brown stripes.
Fruit: Cluster of bright red berries
