Workshop & Webinar Opportunities

The Alabama Wildlife Federation and our partners provide a variety of workshops and webinars to help educators integrate conservation education and hands-on, inquiry-based outdoor activities into their daily lesson plans.    These professional development opportunities also help support schools with the development, use and sustainability of their Habitat Learning Labs (formerly referred to as Outdoor Classrooms) that provide an exciting living laboratory for teachers and students alike.

In addition, the AWF is proud to be an AMSTI Affiliate that promotes and supports the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative.

Upcoming Workshops

The Alabama Wildlife Federation focuses our workshops on providing resources that schools need to use their Habitat Learning Labs as an effective educational tool and sustain their Habitat Labs from year to year with as minimal maintenance as possible.  

  • How to Use and Maintain Your Habitat Lab and Outdoor Classroom (Fall 2025) – The AWF will provide three regional workshops that will introduce schools to the wide variety of educational and maintenance resources available through the Habitat Learning Lab Program.

          Workshop Dates:

    • Tuesday, September 30 at Fairhope Enrichment Educational Foundation (Fairhope, AL) *Deadline to register is 9/23.
    • Wednesday, October 1 at Petals from the Past (Jemison, AL) *Deadline to register is 9/24.
    • Wednesday, October 22 at the Morgan County Extension Office (Hartselle, AL) *Deadline to register is 10/15.

Upcoming Webinars

The Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Habitat Learning Lab program provides webinars on various topics from “Backyard Birding Activities” to “Learning about Decomposers & Decomposition” to “How to Use the Learning Station Adoption Program” to “How to Use Fall Leaves for Fun Activities.”   Our webinars include activity ideas, information about our free educational resources, maintenance tips, and background information on specific topics relating to Habitat Labs.

Our Partners’ Workshops & Webinars

AL Agriculture in the Classroom

AL Agriculture in the Classroom is an interdisciplinary program that promotes Ag literacy for all students.  Their Summer Institutes provide training for teachers and activities relating to agriculture.

AL Extension Eco-Friendly Fridays Environmental Education Series

This environmental education series covers various conservation topics and issues in environmental education.  They occur on the second Friday of the Month at 11:00.

AL Forestry Association

The AL Forestry Association, which includes the Alabama Forestry Foundation, promotes conservation and education for interested individuals.  The AL Forestry Foundation hosts a Conservation Teacher Workshop every summer.

AL Water Watch

AL Water Watch is a citizen science water quality monitoring program with the mission of improving water quality and policy.  They offer a variety of training and workshops relating to water monitoring.

Camp McDowell

Their McDowell Environmental Center and McDowell Farm School provide a variety of learning opportunities related to the natural world including environmental programs and teacher workshops.

Cultivate: Growing STEM Educatorsat the Huntsville Botanical Garden

This professional development opportunity, located in Huntsville, is designed for K-6 teachers to learn about integrating STEM rooted in plant science into their lessons.

Environmental Education Association of Alabama

EEAA is non-profit group consisting of individuals involved in or interested in teaching about the environment.  They conduct environmental education training workshops including an annual conference.

KidsGardening
