Junior Wildlife Scientist Program: First Grade

Each year from kindergarten through 5th grade, students can complete Junior Wildlife Scientist activities to earn (2) NEW merit badges and receive a NEW level of certification following the sequence below:

First Grade
Level 2: Zoologist (The Study of Wildlife)

After studying all living things (plants & animals) in kindergarten to become a JWS Biologist, the first grade students will now focus on studying animals (wildlife) to become a JWS Zoologist.

To earn the Level 2: Zoologist certification, the students must take the JWS Pledge and earn the Animal Adaptations and Butterfly Metamorphosis badges.

For each badge, the student must complete at least three of the JWS nature notebook activities (a total of six activities for the year). The *REQUIRED and *Suggested activities for each badge are noted in the Table of Contents in the nature notebook and teacher’s guide.
