Junior Wildlife Scientist Program: Fourth Grade

Each year from kindergarten through 5th grade, students can complete Junior Wildlife Scientist activities to earn (2) NEW merit badges and receive a NEW level of certification following the sequence below:

Fourth Grade
Level 5: Ornithologist (The Study of Birds)

After studying reptiles and amphibians in third grade to become a JWS Herpetologist, the fourth-grade students will now focus on studying birds to become a JWS Ornithologist

To earn the Level 5: Ornithologist certification, the students must take the JWS Pledge and earn the Backyard Birds and Plant Anatomy badges.

For each badge, the student must complete at least three of the JWS Nature Notebook activities (a total of six activities for the year).  The *REQUIRED and *Suggested activities for each badge are noted in the Table of Contents in the nature journal and teacher’s guide.
